Whilst her children were at school Janet took the opportunity to study Art for Community, a degree course enabling participants both to study and design work for public venues. She became particularly interested in the therapeutic effect of visual art in hospitals, and was subsequently invited to hang a series of her paintings in consulting rooms and patient waiting areas of a new doctor's surgery in London.
